The Music: A Blend of 3 in 1
The "felt" presence of the Lord is what it is all about at WKCL. While the music philosophy of WKCL certainly considers lyrical content, tone and style; Music is not viewed as the primary or central vehicle in drawing people to Christ. From this perspective, the ministry is not the music, but the music certainly is part of the ministry. So we look for songs that are Scriptural, bright, sunny, uplifting of the Lord and which enable the listener to do more than enjoy his or her favorite style; The belief is that what we really need, whether we're Christians or not, are continual encounters with the Holy Spirit; Encounters that not only touch, but change our hearts. So we ask the question: "Does this song, along with everything else that's played, fit in with that goal?" GENERALLY speaking, each of the three styles blended together brings something the other two don't. Southern Gospel brings with it a strong heritage of family values and evangelistic ferver. Contemporary music brings an encouragement for daily living in today's world. Praise and Worship offers the listener the opportunity to go even beyond the song into the very presence of the Lord.
"The 'felt' presence of the Lord is what it (the music) is all about..."

So rather than be known as a Southern Gospel station, a Contemporary Christian station or a Praise & Worship station, WKCL offers all three as one.

One of the common expressions, made by new listeners, is an unexpected appreciation on their part, for a style of music they'd never dream they'd enjoy. That is no surprise, because what is sought in programming, the anointing of the Holy Spirit, is what often binds these three strands of styles together and reaches into hearts. So whether it is a Gaither classic, a Michael W. Smith single or a worshipful ballad by Hillsong and whether the tempos and tones are fun & feel-good, soft & touching or intense & convicting, the three styles and numerous tempos/tones are going to blend into a wonderful experience for the listener. This is why one of the station's mottos is: "Music Filled With Life". And in this case, Life is a Person.
In the center of the music rotation, is Praise and Worship, with Contemporary and Southern Gospel as wings.

Worship is not a means to more important ends, but it has many by-products. Worship is the purpose of life. It's the point of it all. Jesus died so we could worship and pray. Why? Because He is worthy. But He also indicated that when He is lifted up, He will draw others unto Himself.

In worship, the truth of God's great love travels from His Holy Spirit. Next, that truth accesses our reborn spirits, then moves down the path of the three layers of our souls (mind, will and emotions) and finally overflows beyond us and exits our physical bodies (vessels) into this foreign & fallen world. In short, we become illuminated with the presence of God and His love. And it can happen in milli-seconds. It is something significant and real. In worship, we become powerful conduits of Love Himself, praying with purity, authority and effect.

"Worship is the purpose of life. It's the point of it all. Jesus died so we could worship and pray."

WKCL recently received a call from one listener on her way to work. As she tearfully and joyfully serenaded her Lord with the help of a worship song being played on WKCL, she glanced over to her right and witnessed another driver, tearfully singing the same song unto the Lord. What was happening was much more than a belief in their minds. Truth was changing the very climate inside and over those two cars...those two lives.

It is not emotionalism either. Emotionalism involves the pursuit of a feeling or experience at the expense of truth or atleast where the truth is not the driving force.

"If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth" - C.S. Lewis
But the reality (truth) is that God wants our companionship and worship is that form of companionship where we love on Him in response to His great love for us. And that truth is indeed comforting, thus making emotion an essential and inescapable ingredient in worship.

"...she glanced over to her right and witnessed another driver, tearfully singing the same song unto the Lord."

So as we continually see the truth with our mind and respond to Him with our will, our emotions and bodies automatically follow suit. Truth is meant to be experienced! Now clasped hands, uttered words, falling tears, bent knees and lifted hands are much more than something going on inside an individual's mind, but something greater.

Now the power of God is being released with others being affected; A by-product of worship and Spirit-filled prayer. Now God is flowing to, inside and through the individual and invading the lives of others through inspired prayer requests which legally have REAL power to remove the spiritual blindess brought about by our sinful nature, this fallen world and it's god; Not just in our own lives, but those around us! In worship, we are effective ambassadors. "Lord, come abide in us!"

Come, let us worship the One worth the attention. May He fill us to overflowing for the glory of His Son! May His presence be felt and may what is felt consistently fill us and touch others; In Jesus Name.

No, God is not a feeling. But He means to be felt...in our hearts.
